Teen Counseling in Atlanta

Teen Counseling

Teenagers and pre-teens can experience many fluctuating emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. With social, cultural, family and academic pressures competing for the spotlight in an adolescent’s life, it is important to find the best care for your teen or pre-teen during this time of development. Our specialized therapists provide effective, compassionate, and collaborative teen counseling.

What Are You Feeling?

Performance Anxiety
Do you feel pressure to always be perfect or do “better?”— in school, sports, or performing in front of others? Maybe your heart races before a test or you freeze up during games or presentations. Together during teen counseling, we can find ways to manage that pressure so you can feel more confident and in control.

Social Anxiety
When you’re at parties, classrooms, social gatherings, or even in group chats, do any of them get overwhelming? Do you replay conversations in your head or get nervous around some people because of what they might think? Maybe you feel rejected, left out, or fear being embarrassed. If this is the case then you are not alone. Together, we’ll help you understand your brain better and find ways to feel more comfortable being you around others. With teen counseling for social anxiety we will help you to find ways to reduce the physical symptoms of stress– such as heart pounding, sweaty/clammy hands, upset stomach, headaches, or feeling faint. We will work with you to feel more confident.

Struggling With Relationships

Relationships in adolescence tend to be complex and may be confusing to understand. Friendships and dating are important aspects of development. Our teen therapists work with clients who are struggling with both friendships as well as romantic relationships. From breakups to feeling left out to fighting with a friend, we are here to support you.

Depression
Sometimes it’s more than stress. You might feel numb, sad for no reason, or just exhausted — even after sleeping. If you’re struggling to enjoy things that used to make you happy, let’s work together to see what you need so you can sustain joy, even in difficult circumstances. What you’ll learn is that it’s okay to feel anger and sadness, and we can work through any guilt to feel fulfillment again.

Confidence

Confidence doesn’t mean hiding feelings or acting like nothing bothers you. Real strength is being able to ask for help, be kind to yourself, and show up as you. Between social media, school pressure, and constantly being told how to look, act, or fit in it’s easy to start doubting yourself. This form of teen counseling can help you learn how to stop comparing yourself, set boundaries, be assertive, speak up, feel proud of maintaining values through your choices. Additionally, for teen girls, understanding how menstruation can influence your emotions, stress levels, behavior, and ability to regulate your thoughts and reactions can be key to building self-awareness and confidence.

Panic Attacks Or Anxiety

Maybe your heart races for no reason, you feel dizzy or like the world is spinning, or your thoughts won’t slow down. You might even feel like you’re going to faint or can’t breathe. That’s a panic attack — and while it’s terrifying, it’s also treatable. We’ll help you learn how to understand, manage, and calm your body when this form of anxiety takes over. Other forms of anxiety may not be so physical– but more mental. If you’re experiencing thoughts that seem like they won’t stop racing, or critical thoughts that only get worse, our Atlanta teen therapists can help reduce the intensity and frequency of these thoughts.

Grief

Pet Loss- Losing a pet can feel like losing a best friend or family member. Whether it was sudden or expected, the grief is real — and you don’t have to minimize it. You’re allowed to hurt. You’re allowed to miss them. We can talk through that heartbreak with you, while making meaningful traditions or rituals to remember them.

Missed Expectations- Have things not gone the way you thought they would? Maybe you didn’t make the team, didn’t get into your dream school, lost a friendship, or feel like you let someone, or yourself, down. That kind of disappointment can leave you feeling confused, ashamed, or stuck in a “what now?” spiral. We’ll help you grieve what could’ve been and move toward what can still be. Together we can begin to hope again and have expectations that motivate you again!

Loss of friend or family member – Losing someone you care about is incredibly painful. You do not have to go through this alone. With an Atlanta teen therapist you will have a safe space to process your feelings. Your therapist will walk alongside you in your grief.
