You may be seeking therapy to help remove or change issues which are causing you discomfort. In addition to therapy helping you cope and reduce your distress, the process of self-discovery within the therapeutic relationship can lead to an increased understanding and acceptance of yourself. It can also lead to an expansion of comfort with all aspects of yourself.
I am a clinical psychologist with 30 years’ experience providing individual therapy to clients 18+ and couples therapy in a variety of settings including private practice, hospitals, and outpatient medical clinics. I have provided therapy to patients in primary care clinics (e.g., neurology, cardiology, ob/gyn, and oncology). I work with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substances, trauma, medical concerns, chronic illness, infertility, or relationships. My approach is strength-based and grounded in the belief that all people are using their best skills to address the demands and challenges in their lives. I focus on being curious and nonjudgmental as I explore areas of an individual’s current functioning, those which are effective in addressing daily challenges as well as those which can interfere with effective functioning. I am also certified in EMDR which I tailor to the individual needs of my clients.
Your life experiences have influenced your beliefs and decisions. You use these thoughts, emotions, and deep beliefs as you interact with others and with your world. You may respond to situations in your life in ways which seem, on the surface, to be confusing or make no sense. Addressing this confusion and discomfort is an act of courage. Throughout the therapy process, we will examine these areas. My experience has been that this exploration will lead you to develop increased self-compassion, self-awareness, and self-acceptance. From this place of mindfulness, new choices and decisions emerge which will allow you to experience greater fulfillment in your life. It is a privilege for me to join clients in their exploration of themselves and their world. I look forward to working with you to investigate and discover all of who you are.
